The Place in Context

The clear fell was relatively recent and firewood gathers had been there collecting firewood for domestic use. Possibly there had been other wood scavengers there as well. It seemed that there had been some activity going on in order to recover as much as possible that might be recovered before the impending 'Autumn Burn'. There was evidence that this site had been selectively logged possibly in the 1950s or earlier. Nonetheless, once the saw and pulp logs had been removed there was a great deal left over wood on the coupe floor ready for what in Tasmania has come to be know as the "Autumn Conflagration". There was nothing left to do but WATCH!
